ASSA Appoints Patrick Marotta to Board of Directors

Washington, District of Columbia –The American Shipbuilding Suppliers Association (ASSA) today announced that Patrick Marotta, President and CEO of Marotta Controls, Inc., has been appointed to the Board of Directors.

Patrick Marotta began his career at Marotta Controls in 1998, gaining hands-on knowledge of all aspects of the business by serving in multiple disciplines throughout the company including Operations and Business Development. He transitioned to President and COO in 2009 and began shaping the business for the next generation. In 2015, Patrick was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer, where he continues to lead and expand the company to meet the challenges of today and tomorrow.

“Patrick is devoted to the mission of the U.S. shipbuilding industry,” stated Stephen Cobb, Chairman of the Board of Directors of ASSA. “Patrick has led the charge at Marotta to create new and advanced technologies that further promote the performance and competitiveness of our US defense.”

Patrick is responsible for driving Marotta’s core technical competency beyond its legacy fluid control products to include electronics, power conversion technologies and control actuation systems. This technology diversification has enabled Marotta to better serve its customers as they incorporate new control architecture and modernize legacy platforms.

At the same time, Patrick led Marotta to incorporate lean principles and value engineer key manufacturing processes. Improved quality, on-time performance and competitiveness are a direct result of these efforts. Under his leadership, Marotta Controls has achieved some of the highest honors awarded to a small family-owned business, and has been named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Regional Small Business of the Year as well as a Lockheed Martin Supplier of the Year.

Patrick is a member of the small business board of advisors to the New York Federal Reserve, and represents the Company at the Morris County Chamber of Commerce. Patrick is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Systems Engineering.

As a member driven organization, the American Shipbuilding Suppliers Association (ASSA), advocates for the US shipbuilding supplier community directly to Congress, the Navy and the Coast Guard on industry-wide issues. These issues include: unfair foreign competition, Jones Act, liquidated damages, impact of Federal budget cuts, etc. ASSA is committed to ensuring the shipbuilding supplier base remains viable and ready to meet any future ship construction build-up required to defend the United States.

In addition to providing the latest supplier industry information directly from the US Government, ASSA provides suppliers with target rich networking opportunities with senior decision makers from the industry. Our member companies supply the Navy and Coast Guard with critical equipment such as radars, navigation systems, engines, generators, reduction gears, air compressors, valves, switchboards, power converters, circuit breakers, and power cables.
